Lessons Learned from Years with Cultures

What are Some of the Things that You Need to Know About Piqua Shawnee Tribe

Shawnee tribe were the nomadic meaning they were moving from place to another. They inhabited many areas in the Northeast and Southeast. Their economic practice was majorly hunting and farming confirming that they were in search of farming land and wild animals to hunt. In addition to that, these tribes copied the dressing code of Europeans as they were moving from one place to the next. By then they were having chiefs such as Cornstalk, Tecumseh and Blue Jacket.

Originally, they lived in Tennessee region around Cumberland river where they migrated into many other parts of America. In new place their lifestyle was being determined by the natural resources, climate and the geographical set up of the region. You can confuse some of the members of this tribe with Indians since they adopted native Indian culture as a result of their nomadic life. But due to constant civic war in America some of the Shawnee were blended into Cherokee Nation also known as Cherokee Shawnee. They lived in different places depending with their major economic practices. A group that was living in woodlands lived in birchbark houses.

These houses were in the shape of a cone with the arched roofs which were made of wooden frames. Another thing is that they covered these wooden frames using the buffalo hides due to the fact that buffalo was the most dominant animal in that area. They made them to a height of about 8-10 and 10-15 feet wide.

Another thing about the Piqua Shawnee is that they were speaking their native language known as Algonquian. They were also eating different food substances depending with the resources found in the area. Being that they were hunters they were eating meat from buffalo, deer, elk and wild turkey which was supplemented with roots and some vegetables. Others who were living in the woodlands were eating fish, squirrel, deer, raccoon, bear and beaver which was supplemented with corn maize, pumpkin, squash and beans. We also have a group of people who inhabited Southeast part who were eating rabbits, wild hogs, turkeys, eagles which was supplemented with corn, beans, dried fruits, pumpkins and nuts.

When it comes to weapons they were using bows, arrows, clubs, hatchet, axes, spears, lenses and knives and rifles. These weapons were used for defense, hunting and maybe farming activities. Apart from that, their dressing code was being determined by the climate and season. You find that they were dressing in finger tunics, shirts and leggings during cold rainy season while in warm weather they were dressing in breach cloths.
